Seward County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,750.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/31/31159.html )〕 Its county seat is Seward.〔(【引用サイトリンク】accessdate=2011-06-07 )〕 The county was formed in 1855 and later organized in 1867. It was originally called Greene County, and in 1862 it was renamed in honor of William H. Seward, United States Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Seward County is part of the Lincoln, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. In the Nebraska license plate system, Seward County is represented by the prefix 16 (it had the sixteenth-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). ==Geography== According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.8%) is water.
